Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act

To prevent the commission of the offense of atrocities against the members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, a Special Court for the trial of such offenses and to provide for relief and rehabilitation of the victims of such offense and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. Act.

The abbreviation of this Act is the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
Its extension is on the whole of India except the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Punishment for the offense of atrocities-
 

️ Any person who is not a member of a Scheduled Caste  or a Scheduled Tribe-

• compels any member of a Scheduled Caste or a Tribe to drink or eat any obnoxious or disgusting substance,

• by collecting excreta, garbage, animal carcasses or any other obnoxious substance in the family or neighborhood of a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe, with intent to cause injury, humiliation or annoyance,

• takes over or cultivates any land owned or allotted to or notified to be allotted to him by any traction authority or causes the allotted land to be transferred to him,

• Wrongful dispossession of any member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe in his land or premises or interferes with the exercise of his rights over any land, premises or water,

• compels or entices any member of a Scheduled Caste and a Scheduled Tribe to do 'begar' or to do any similar form of forced labor or bonded labor other than any compulsory service imposed by the Government for the purposes of

• compels or intimidates any member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe not to vote or to vote for any particular candidate or to vote in a manner other than that provided by law,

• institutes a false, malicious or vexatious instrument, criminal or other legal proceeding against any member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe,

• Intentionally insults or intimidates any member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe in any place visible to the public,

• assaults or uses force with intent to insult or outrage the modesty of any woman belonging to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe,

• a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe, being in a position to govern the will of a woman, uses that position to sexually exploit her to which she would not otherwise agree,

• Forces or causes any member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe to leave his house, village or other place of residence.

shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than six months but which may extend to five years and with fine.
